Covid-19 Awareness Activities with UNICEF

The Covid-19 pandemic posed many threats to the well-being of the whole society. During a crisis situation like these women and child are the ones who experience many difficult situations. This was a situation that no one was prepared for and risk factor was too high. During that time Sky Social along with UNICEF conducted various activities online to create more awareness about Covid-19 protocols, and engaged children and young people to disseminate information about child rights during the pandemic.

Instagram Live Session On Creating Safe Online Spaces

Sky Social hosted an Instagram Live Sessions on creating safe spaces online with Arnika Singh from Social Media matters. She is the co-founder of the organization and has been empowering diverse groups in using online spaces safely. She has also conducted Internet safety workshops across India and the globe along with creating innovative tech solutions for positive use of social media.

On 29th May 2020 Sky Social’s founder Srishti Pragat was invited for a Live Discussion on The Global Crisis of Domestic Violence in the Time of a Pandemic with Bhopal Info. Domestic violence is widespread and deep-rooted in India and its ubiquity was highlighted prominently during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Parenting Month Celebration

The month of June is celebrated as the Parenting Month. Parenting month is an initiative by UNICEF to focus on raising awareness of the impact that protection, nutrition and stimulation have on brains in the earliest years of life of a child. Parenting has a huge impact on overall growth and development of a child. During this session we talked about various aspects of parenting. One of the most important aspects of parenting is building a strong bond with children. A strong parent - child relationship serves as a reference point for all future relationships, and also influences problem-solving abilities, peer relationships and basic coping skills.

Sky Social conducted a webinar on 5th July on a very important topic “Understanding the basics of Mental Health and how can youth deal with mental health issues.” This session had an esteem guest Aditi Saxena who is a Consultant Psychologist and Integrative Psychotherapist with 11 years of experience. She is also managing a UN funded project for psychological Counselling for Adolescents in the State of MP.

Online workshop on Menstrual Awareness in collaboration with IWSC Banasthali

Sky Social organized an online workshop on Menstrual Awareness in collaboration with IWSC Banasthali as a part of Period No More Limits Campaign. Menstruation is a natural part of the reproductive cycle. However, in most parts of the world, it remains a taboo and is rarely talked about. Cultural practices and taboos around menstruation negatively impact the lives of women and girls, and reinforce gender inequities and exclusion. Moreover, studies have proved a direct link between poor menstrual hygiene and urinary or reproductive tract infections and other illnesses.

National Girl Child Day Celebration

Sky Social’s Founder Srishti Pragat was invited as a guest speaker by RJ Shruti Patel on BSSS Rhythm Radio’s show on National Girl Child Day. During the decision they spoke about the challenges girls face in the society, the root causes of gender discrimination, patriarchy and socialization process which impacts girls at large. This insightful discussion had a long lasting impact on its listeners as they were able to question many taboo issues and actually work on empowering girls through small efforts on an individual level.

Red Dot Challenge

On menstrual hygiene week Sky Social participated in Red Dot Challenge if she matters to you, an initiative started by UNICEF and post.for.change to bust myths about menstruation and to end the taboo around periods. We joined this campaign with UNICEF to create awareness about safe menstrual hygiene, bust myths about periods and also to ensure that migrant female workers and marginalized women get easy access to menstrual hygiene products during covid lockdown.

Sky Social’s founder Srishti Pragat was a part of a very important panel discussion on Women in Leadership, organized by girlup bhopal . Women are powerful agents of change, and the far-reaching benefits of diversity and gender parity in leadership and decision-making are increasingly recognized in all spheres. Still, women continue to be vastly under-represented in decision-making in politics, businesses, and communities. During the session everyone shared their insights on the challenges women face and how together as a community we can work towards addressing those challenges and ensure that women have equal participation at the decision making bodies in different sectors.

Sky Social with We grow together global conducted a workshop on Gender Equality and Rights of women and Children for celebration National Girl Child Day. The workshop was about spreading awareness among people on inequalities faced by girls in the country, to advocate for rights of girls and to increase awareness on the importance of female education, health, and nutrition.

Sky Social hosted a panel discussion on Strengthening Youth for a Gender equal world at Breakthrough’s Pan-Asian Virtual Summit - Reframe Envisioning a World without GBV. The discussion covered very important aspects around how building capacities of youth can help in eradicating gender-based violence in the society and will also empower them to negotiate for their own rights. Through this advocacy youth can create an enabling environment for women and girls in our society. Our session Strengthening Youth for a Gender Equal World had diverse panellists who shared varied perspectives on Youth Development. The discussion focused on building and strengthening the agency and leadership skills of young people so that they can take action and work towards creating a violence-free world. Through this discussion we shared strategies, tools, insights, recommendations and advocacy agenda of what can work in supporting these young people to live to their full potential, becoming leaders and role models in their own right.

MHM Training Session

Sky Social collaborated with Project Inaayat as a part of Period No more Limits campaign. We conducted MHM training session with SHG women of Gunga and share important information and knowledge related to periods and its impact on their daily lives. Educating women on menstrual health and hygiene is necessary so that they develop health seeking attitude. These sessions are beneficial in eradicating period taboos in the society and will create an ethos were menstruation is not a stigma anymore. Given the multiple challenges women and adolescent girls face, it is evident that promoting menstrual hygiene management is not only a sanitation matter, it is also an important step towards safeguarding the dignity, bodily integrity and overall life opportunities of women and girls.

Sky Social hosted an Instagram Live Session with Nirmala Singh from Breakthrough India on World Girl Child Day, where we discussed about various experiences of women and girls from the grassroots. Ms. Nirmala shared many interesting, insightful and empowering stories of women and girls and their lived experiences. These stories from the field were heartwarming and engaged all of our viewers. These were not mere stories but a true picture of how the society oppresses women and their never-ending fight just to get access to resources and enjoy their basic human rights. These conversations help us understand the gaps and also gives us hope to encourage more dialogues on gender equality at all levels.

Sky Social hosted an Instagram Live session on world contraceptive day with Dr. Aditi Tandon. The live focused on an insightful discussion on contraception, how it has evolved over the years and also expert advices that can help people. Contraception is an integral part of sexual and reproductive health but since there's still so much taboo around this subject the knowledge is very limited. Through our campaign #periodnomorelimits we're addressing this issue and creating awareness about these subjects so that people from rural and urban areas understand the importance of SRHR and lead a healthy safe life.

Instagram Live On Engaging Boys for Creating A Gender Equal Society

Sky Social collaborated with Equal Community Foundation and conducted a live session on engaging men and boys for creating a gender equal society. Suhasini Mukherjee from ECF joined in and gave insights on their work with boys from the community. This was a very importance conversation and it opened up many new perspectives for people to actually talk about gender with boys. Gender equality cannot be achieved without the involvement of men and boys. Change is slowly taking place, and men are increasingly working alongside women to support gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Today, it is widely recognized that improving women’s status and advancing their rights yields benefits for whole societies, not just women and girls. Ensuring access to sexual and reproductive health services and protection from gender-based violence, among other important measures, improves the health of families and the economic well-being of entire communities.
