Children and young people have the same general human rights as adults and also specific rights that recognize their special needs. Children are neither the property of their parents nor are they helpless objects of charity. They are human beings and are the subject of their own rights.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out the rights that must be realized for children to develop to their full potential. The Convention offers a vision of the child as an individual and as a member of a family and community, with rights and responsibilities appropriate to his or her age and stage of development. By recognizing children's rights in this way, the Convention firmly sets the focus on the whole child.

The Convention recognizes the fundamental human dignity of all children and the urgency of ensuring their well-being and development. It makes clear the idea that a basic quality of life should be the right of all children, rather than a privilege enjoyed by a few.

Sky Social has been supporting UNICEF’s various campaigns focused towards rights of children through varieds events organized at community level and with radio station for larger reach of the campaign.

Sky Social also initiated two unique programmes which are ‘Beti ki Awaaz’ or ‘Voice of Girl’ which was carried out in association with Radio Mirchi and the other one was ‘Youth4Children Camp’ where at the district level with support from local authorities this two days awareness camp for youngsters on child rights was organized. Through these initiatives Sky Social has mobilized around youth from across the country.

In 2019, the world marked 30 years since the signing of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. And Sky Social celebrated CRC30 with various activities like street plays, child rights workshop, interactive campaigns, social media campaigns, various competitions, wall paintings and other awareness activities. All these activities were carried out by Sky Social’s youth volunteers who were sensitised and trained on the rights of children the important provisions of CRC.

Child Rights Advocacy has been an important part of the work Sky Social has been doing, and with multi-sectoral approach along with young engagement we are ensuring that children are able to get access to all the resources and their rights are not violated. Through a behavioural change approach Sky Social closely also works with various government departments and engage all the relevant stakeholders at all the levels including front-line workers.

Through the Youth for Children Programme, Sky Social is addressing various issues around child rights including education, healthcare, protection, safety, child marriage, nutrition, climate change and other related areas.
